Hillgate Cakery
Nestled off Lower Hillgate, inside the ground floor of a mock-Tudor building sits a quirky independent cafe by the name of Hillgate Cakery.
The cafe, which was recently featured in the MEN newspaper, has brought another opportunity for vegan food to be showcased in the Stockport area. Despite not being vegan, the Stop in Stockport team decided to visit the cakery after seeing the amazing cakes that are on offer.
Upon entry we were greeted by attentive hosts, a bright and colourful interior and the smell of freshly made cakes, brownies and treats. The owners provided plenty of pleasant chit-chat whilst we deliberated over what we would order.
Our choices included, a coffee and walnut cake with oodles of icing, a deliciously rich peanut butter and chocolate brownie along with a slice of double Oreo cake (side note: who knew Oreos were vegan?!)
No word of a lie, you would never ever know the cakes were made using only vegan ingredients. They. Were. Amazing… Honestly. Amazing.
The owners have created such a warm, family-orientated atmosphere that, young or old, vegan or not, all feel welcome.
So, whether you’re after a comfortable place to spend an afternoon with friends or after a quick sugar fix, we’d highly recommend a trip to the Hillgate Cakery.
Embrace the local.
