– We start with ITV’s Great Night Out – a series based in Stockport that centres around four friends and their love of Stockport County Football Club.

– The next is a BBC adaptation of Pride and Prejudice set at Lyme Park. The period drama stars Colin Firth and is split into six parts. Apologies for the grainy image but it was made in 1995.

– The third is a personal favourite of ours – Life on Mars. The gritty, crime drama had a few scenes filmed in Stockport. But the most iconic image is that of Stopford House.

– Number four on our list is the American-British television series, Houdini & Doyle. The show describes a strange coming together of a magician and a supernatural believer whom join forces to solve inexplicable crimes. One of the scenes was filmed in the winding streets of Stockport Underbank.

– The next is a film that takes us back a few years. Yanks, made in 1979, is a film about American soldiers who move to Britain before joining the war effort in mainland Europe. The film starring Richard Gere has multiple filming locations but our favourite is that of the scene in Stockport Market Place.

– This next appearance comes from the series Tina and Bobby. The series is about the trials and tribulations of Bobby M more and his wife Tina. Interestingly, Michelle Keegan who plays Tina actually grew up in Stockport which may have contributed to the choice of filming location.

– Filmed in 2019, the BBC series Scarborough featured parts of Stockport’s Great Underbank. A unit opposite the White Lion was transformed into a hair salon called ‘Geraldine’s’. The show starred local actor/comedian Jason Manford.

– Yet to be released, Netflix’s up-and-coming drama The Stranger features Stockport considerably. Filming took place over multiple days in multiple locations including the Market Place and a chase scene down Little Underbank. The drama stars actor Richard Armitage, known for his appearance in Lord of the Rings, and Siobhan Finneran from Benidorm.

– And last, but certainly not least, the increasingly popular series Peaky Blinders chose to film here in Stockport earlier in 2019. For an episode in series 5, scenes were filmed outside the historical Stockport Plaza and surrounding area. Crowds that gathered to watch also spotted David Beckham during filming at Stockport Town Hall.
