We’ve put together a short list of our favourite Stockport beaches – We know people don’t often associate our town with them but we’ve got rivers and therefore we have useable beaches. The question is how many have you visited!
Our first beach is located in Woodbank Park – Located around 50 metres from the local favourite beach hotspot of Pebble Beach. This beach offers a small and intimate space with views up and down the river as it is situated on a gradual bend in the Goyt. We are referring to this beach as “Sandy Beach” as unlike its nearby partner it is sandy!
How to get there: When entering Woodbank park make your way to Woodbank Hall by following information signs provided in the park. Behind the hall there is some fairly steep steps. Follow these to the bottom and keep continuing on until you hear the sound of the river. This should bring you out near the Pebble Beach. Take a left and walk around 50 metres.
Pebble Beach is the most famous of Stockport beaches. Due to its size, open space, views on to the weir and overall beauty. This beach is frequented many times over by locals and is definitely one to visit. As the name suggests this is a pebble beach which may not be the most comfortable to sit on so it might be worth bringing a long your own chairs. The view of the Weir and falls make Pebble Beach a fantastic local destination.

Located in Reddish Vale Country Park this beach much resembles that of Pebble Beach in Woodbank Park. The falls however are much larger creating a more dramatic landscape. The pebble beach isn’t as well maintained from footfall and activity which results in greenery growing through. This changes the dynamic of the waters edge in comparison to Woodbank’s Pebble Beach. We do highly recommend a visit to take in the fantastic surroundings and embrace Stockport natural environment.
How to get there: If entering from the car parking spaces adjacent to Tesco 24 on Tiviot Way it is best to follow the river along on the left hand side until you come to the opening.
Our last beach is hidden away just off the Trans Pennine Trail. Located through the fallen trees and bushy undergrowth you’ll find this tiny beach with the perfect fallen log for a tranquil gaze down the river.
How to find it: To find this you need to head on to the Trans Pennine Trail directly adjacent to Stockport Pyramid and look out for it on the left.
Important: Never jump into open water – Cold water shock kills and you don’t know what is lurking beneath the surface – Greater Manchester Fire & Rescue Service
