Tram Announced for Stockport

Tram Announced for Stockport

Breaking News: Stockport Is Finally Getting the Tram!

Stockport, the wait is over. After years — no, decades — of asking, planning, and being ghosted by transport bosses, the Metrolink tram is finally coming our way.

The government just dropped a £15.6 billion investment into public transport outside London, and a juicy £2.5 billion chunk is going straight to Greater Manchester. Stockport is officially now a chosen tram route.

The new Stockport Interchange? It was built tram ready. Opened in 2024, it’s already got space waiting for a tram stop. So when people said “one day the tram will come,” it wasn’t just wishful thinking — it was part of the plan.

We’re talking real progress now. Plans are being drawn up, routes are being looked at, and if all goes to plan, construction could start as soon as 2028. That’s basically tomorrow if you’ve been waiting since the ’90s.

This isn’t just about easier commutes or cutting down on traffic. It’s about Stockport getting the connection, recognition, and investment it deserves.

More access to jobs. More people visiting the town. More options.

The tram’s coming and we absolutely deserve.
